From practitioner to teacher

Reiki Master-Teacher (RMT) is the teaching level of Reiki in our style of Usui Reiki and is deliberately separated from Reiki Master. Becoming a professional practitioner and becoming responsible for teaching and attuning other people are different stages of development.

RMT is therefore undertaken only after substantial experience as a Reiki Master. The emphasis moves beyond receiving Reiki into learning how to guide, support and develop other students.

Before taking Reiki Master-Teacher

Students must already be qualified Reiki Masters and have worked at Master level for at least one year, completing a minimum of 100 full professional Reiki treatments – often many more – during that period. They will also have experienced many personal and spiritual shifts — arising through their own life experiences rather than simply through teachings or structures. Often these changes come through as challenges which can be uncomfortable but are an opportunity to allow Reiki to guide the outcome to a positive conclusion with appropriate support always available.

Your Teacher will also seek guidance from Reiki itself on whether you are ready to take this next step. There are no further attunements for you at RMT level; instead, part of your development comes through learning to attune your first Reiki student. In addition to changes to the student, the attunements shift the frequency of the new Teacher, increasing their ability to channel and their connection to source.

A practical six-day course

Unlike Reiki 1, Reiki 2 and Reiki Master, there is no separate RMT student manual. The training is deliberately practical and supervised, drawing together your professional healing experience with the skills needed to begin teaching.

The course is structured around real practice rather than classroom theory alone.

• Days 1-3: supervised professional Reiki healing work with volunteers.
• Days 4-5: teach Reiki 1 to your student under guidance, including learning how to perform the Reiki attunements.
• Day 6: host a Reiki Share under guidance and gain practical experience supporting the wider Reiki and non-Reiki community.

Learning to teach Reiki

An important part of RMT is creating your own version of the teaching materials for Reiki 1 – and later other courses – rather than simply reproducing somebody else’s course. You learn how to guide a Reiki 1 student through the material, support their experiences and introduce Reiki responsibly and clearly.

The attunement process is taught from a separate confidential attunement manual. This material is not published on the website and is provided only as part of the appropriate training. At RMT level you can see/sense the energy channelled by Reiki students so can verify you have attuned your student correctly and also assess other Reiki channels from outside of our style.

What Reiki Master-Teacher begins

Completing RMT is not the end of your Reiki development. It is the beginning of learning to teach and of an incredible journey. You start with Reiki 1 and, as your experience develops over time, learn to teach the other Reiki levels and the supplementary courses for which you have the appropriate knowledge and experience.

The aim is not simply to produce more teachers, but to develop teachers who have practised what they teach, understand the responsibility involved and can support students through their own Reiki development.

Becoming a Reiki Master-Teacher is therefore not an ending, but a beginning. Your own development continues through teaching, through the students who come to you and through the responsibility of helping others discover Reiki for themselves. The teacher passes on what they have learned, while continuing to learn from Reiki, from experience and from those they teach.
